The association between mortality and distance to treatment facility in patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer
The Journal of Urology Oct 15, 2017
Ryan S, et al. - A characterization was pursued of the tie-up between distance and overall mortality in patients with invasive bladder cancer and those who underwent radical cystectomy. Inferior survival outcomes were not experienced by the candidates traveling farther for bladder cancer treatment. A connection was discovered between traveling to academic institutions with reduced mortality. This link appeared to be equivocal for patients undergoing cystectomy. However, the longer distance correlated with receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy or surgery at a high-volume facility. Hence, a complex connection was brought to the limelight, between regionalization of bladder cancer care, patients individual health and healthcare-seeking behavior.
