PLoS Medicine Jun 16, 2019
Heslehurst N, et al. - Via a systematic review and meta-analysis, the researchers intended to examine the dose–response association between maternal body mass index and childhood obesity in the offspring. Significantly increased odds for child overweight/obesity and for child overweight with maternal obesity were observed. Hence, a 264% increase in the odds was identified, of child obesity when mothers had obesity before conception. In order to halt intergenerational obesity, the need for development of interventions that commence prior to conception, to support women of childbearing age with weight management is substantially evident.
