The association between insulin resistance, metabolic variables, and depressive symptoms in Mexican-American elderly: A population-based study
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Sep 22, 2017
Diniz BS, et al. - This population-based study was performed to examine the relationship, and potential mediators, between obesity, insulin resistance, and depressive symptoms among older adults from a homogenous cohort of Mexican-Americans. The physicians proposed that in older Mexican-American adults, depressive symptoms were correlated with insulin resistance. Moreover, important mediators of this relationship were poorer glucose control and obesity. Additional studies were required to assess whether interventions that increase insulin sensitivity could also decrease depressive symptoms in this population.
