The association between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and childhood asthma
Pediatric Research Jan 28, 2022
Researchers investigated if hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are associated with the risk of developing asthma at or before the age of 7 years using the UK Millennium Cohort Study (MCS).
For wave one of the MCS, recruitment of 18,552 families was done when the child was 9 months old; the families subsequently participated in waves two, three and four when the children were 3, 5 and 7 years, respectively.
Mothers self-reported HDP in wave one.
Analysis suggests increased risks of developing asthma by age 7 among children exposed to HDP, particularly if they were born preterm or SGA.
