The association between hypertension and colorectal cancer: A meta-analysis of observational studies
European Journal of Cancer Prevention Dec 12, 2020
Xuan K, Zhao T, Sun C, et al. - Researchers investigated if and how hypertension is related to the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), by analyzing relevant studies published before August 2019 that were identified from six databases. They identified 2,841 potentially relevant articles and performed a meta-analysis including 25 studies with a pooled 1.95 million participants. Findings revealed a positive link between hypertension and CRC, with a pooled relative risk (RR) of 1.15. A higher risk of developing CRC was observed in male patients vs female patients. In male patients, the risk of colon cancer and rectal cancer was estimated to be 1.17 and 1.35, respectively; there was no link seen between hypertension and CRC risk in female patients.
