The association between health insurance coverage and in-hospital mortality in patients hospitalized with a myocardial infarction in the state of Florida
Annals of Epidemiology Aug 31, 2018
Ahmed M, et al. - In this secondary analysis, researchers assessed the link between health insurance coverage and mortality in patients in Florida after an acute myocardial infarction. They analyzed data of an observational, non-concurrent cohort study from patients participating in the Florida Agency for HealthCare Administration Registry. A better prognosis after hospitalization for an acute myocardial infarction was more likely to be seen in patients with private insurance. Older age, diabetes, and heart failure were the characteristics found to be significantly related to higher in-hospital mortality. Hispanic ethnicity, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia were documented to be related to decreased risk of in-hospital mortality.
