The association between fertility treatments and the incidence of paediatric cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Cancer Sep 27, 2020
Zhang Y, Gao R, Chen H, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the connection between fertility treatments and the incidence of paediatric cancer. For this investigation, they analyzed 11 case–control studies and 16 cohort studies. The authors discovered that the relative risk of association between in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and paediatric cancer incidence was 1.01 in cohort studies and 1.09 in case–control studies. They observed that the relative risk of connection between intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and paediatric cancer incidence was 0.97 in cohort studies. They found that the relative risk of link between fertility drugs and paediatric cancer incidence was 1.07 in cohort studies and 1.12 in case–control studies. There is no indication that an increase in paediatric cancer incidence in offspring is associated with IVF, ICSI and fertility drugs. However, frozen embryo transfer is linked to an increase in paediatric cancer incidence in the offspring, although this result requires more study and attention.
