The association between etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma and race-ethnicity in Florida
Liver International Mar 02, 2020
Pinheiro PS, Medina H, Callahan KE, et al. - Using individual-level data, researchers estimated population-level incidence rates by hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) etiology, hepatitis C virus (HCV)-HCC, metabolic-HCC, alcohol-related disease (ALD)-HCC, and hepatitis B virus (HBV)-HCC, for Level II race-ethnicity, by age group, leveraging the diversity in the populous state of Florida. HCC etiology is related to a specific race/ethnicity. Although HCV-related HCC rates are projected to decline soon, HCC will continue to affect Hispanics disproportionately, based on higher rates of metabolic-HCC (and ALD-HCC) among Continental Hispanics, who constitute 80% of all US Hispanics. Multifaceted approaches are needed for HCC control and prevention.
