The association between duration of mechanical ventilation and survival in post cardiac arrest patients
Resuscitation Feb 06, 2020
Lundin A, et al. - Researchers examined how the duration of mechanical ventilation during post resuscitation care influences 30-day survival after cardiac arrest. For this retrospective observational study, data from two national registries were used. Inclusion of 5,113 patients in 56 hospitals was done. For patients not surviving to hospital discharge, the median duration of mechanical ventilation ranged from 17 h in hospital group 1–51 hours in hospital group 4. The analysis revealed a correlation of a tendency for a longer duration of post resuscitation care in the ICU with higher 30-day survival in comatose patients admitted to intensive care after cardiac arrest.
