The association between dispositional mindfulness and glycemic control in type 1 diabetes during early adulthood: Differences by age and adverse childhood experiences
Pediatric Diabetes Feb 28, 2020
Nagel KE, Dearth-Wesley T, Herman AN, et al. - Among young adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D), experts aspired to explore if higher levels of dispositional mindfulness were correlated with lower HbA1c levels and if this relationship varied by age or exposure to adverse childhood experiences. In 2017, 423 of 743 young adults (19-31 years) completed an online cross-sectional survey, called T1 Flourish, of T1D seeking outpatient care at a specialty diabetes clinic in New York City. In young adults with T1D, higher mindfulness was significantly linked to lower HbA1c only among 27- to 31-year-olds. The impact of mindfulness-based interventions on glycemic control in early adulthood may vary by age and history of childhood trauma.
