The association between congenital heart disease and small for gestational age with regard to the prevalence and outcomes
Acta Pediatrica Feb 21, 2021
Ishikawa T, Uchiyama H, Baba T, et al. - Researchers here examined the correlation between small for gestational age (SGA) and the prevalence of congenital heart disease (CHD) as well as investigated the correlation of the SGA status with the outcomes among infants with CHD. CHD was diagnosed in a total of 303 infants, while 610 infants were diagnosed with SGA. Among the infants with CHD, 56 were SGA, and 247 were not. Findings suggest a significant predictive value of SGA for invasive intervention for CHD. Risk of death was high for the combination of CHD and SGA, beyond that of either alone.
