The association between cardiovascular risk burden and cognitive function among the old: A 9-year longitudinal cohort study
European Journal of Neurology Jun 08, 2021
Wu X, Wang H, Chen C, et al. - Researchers used 9-year follow-up data to determine the link between the cardiovascular risk score and cognitive function. The risk score assessed algorithms were from Chinese guidelines on prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in adults (2016 revised), which was evaluated at baseline and classified into tertiles (low, middle, and high). This analysis involved 924 participants (mean age: 78.06 ± 7.58 years). Lower full intelligence quotient and verbal intelligence quotient were reported in relation to higher cardiovascular risk score. An increase in cognition impairment risk as well as acceleration of its progression over time both were brought about by higher cardiovascular risk burden. This work has implications for early identification of cognition impairment.
