The association between asthma and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): A systematic review
Journal of Asthma Dec 14, 2018
Davies SE, et al. - Researchers assessed the strength of the link between bronchial asthma and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), and determined the influence of OSA on asthma-related clinical outcomes via this literature review of 19 studies containing a population with asthma and a prevalence of OSA reported using either polysomnography or validated questionnaires such as the Sleep Apnoea Scale of the Sleep Disorders Questionnaire (SA-SDQ), STOP BANG or the Berlin questionnaire. Studies up to and including 2016 were selected, of which, 13 met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. According to findings, OSA highly prevails in asthma, particularly within severe asthma populations, and worse clinical outcomes were reported in asthma patients with co-diagnosis of OSA.
