The association between arterial pulse waveform analysis device and in‐hospital mortality in high‐risk non‐cardiac surgeries
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Apr 22, 2020
Takeda C, Takeuchi M, Mizota T, et al. - Among patients undergoing high‐risk surgery under general anaesthesia, researchers retrospectively determined if the use of a specialized pressure transducer for arterial pulse waveform analysis (S‐APWA) is related to in‐hospital mortality. For this purpose, a Japanese administrative claims database was used. Two groups were defined including adult patients who had a high‐risk surgery under general anaesthesia and arterial catheterization between 2014 and 2016: S‐APWA and conventional arterial pressure transducer groups. Both were compared in terms of baseline factors and outcomes. According to the findings, S‐APWA use was not related to in‐hospital mortality in the whole study population. However, experts identified that S‐APWA was related to reduced in‐hospital death among vascular surgery and raised in‐hospital mortality among lower limb amputation.
