The association between anthropometric measures of adiposity and the progression of carotid atherosclerosis
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Mar 24, 2020
Imahori Y, Mathiesen EB, Morgan KE, et al. - Researchers analyzed adults (n = 4,345, median age 60) from the population-based Tromsø Study, to know how four simple anthropometric measures of general and abdominal obesity can influence the progression of carotid atherosclerosis, as well as to determine the extent to which cardiometabolic markers mediate the link between adiposity and the progression of plaque burden. According to the findings, abdominal obesity indirectly measured with waist circumference vs general obesity appeared to be more strongly related to the progression of total plaque area. In addition, these links seemed to be largely mediated by known cardiometabolic markers.
