The association between 1,3-dichloropropene and asthma Emergency Department visits in California, USA from 2005 to 2011: A bidirectional-symmetric case crossover study
Journal of Asthma Apr 06, 2019
Gharibi H, et al. - Researchers examined the link between short term exposure to 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) and asthma Emergency Department (ED) visits from 2005 to 2011 in central and southern California. Over 1064 days, 3878 ED visits were reported. They determined the odds ratio (OR) related to 0.01 ppb increase in 1,3-D by using conditional logistic regression models. A 13.5% increase in the odds of having asthma ED visits during October to February of 2005 to 2011 was reported in relation to a 0.01 ppb increase in 1,3-D at the event day. Among Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic, race had a positive link between 1,3-D and asthma ED visits; while no link was found in Non-Hispanic Whites. Among patients 2 to 5, 6 to 18, and 19 to 40 years old, positive association for age was observed between 1,3-D and asthma ED visits.
