The analysis of oxidative stress markers may increase the accuracy of the differential diagnosis of Alzheimer disease with and without depression

Clinical Interventions in Aging Jun 19, 2021

Polak-Szabela A, Dziembowska I, Bracha M, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the usefulness of oxidative stress parameters in the differential diagnosis of dementia of the Alzheimer’s type and dementia of the Alzheimer’s type with coexisting depression. The participants were divided into three groups: those with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (AD; N=27), those with Alzheimer’s disease and depression (D) (AD+D; N=30), and those without dementia and without depression (C; N=24). The efficacy of neuropsychological diagnosis and oxidative stress marker analysis in the diagnosis of AD and major depressive disorder in the course of AD was verified in this investigation. The use of biochemical markers in conjunction with neuropsychological testing appears to be particularly relevant for differential diagnosis.
