The added value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound to conventional ultrasound in differentiating benign and malignant solid breast lesions: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Radiology Jul 12, 2018
Wubulihasimu M, et al. - Researchers carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine if contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) could add value to conventional ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of breast lesions. They searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science for relevant studies published between May 24, 2005 and October 29, 2017. With little reduction of sensitivity, adding CEUS to conventional US could improve diagnostic specificity and accuracy for breast cancers. For further clinical application, the methods of adding CEUS to conventional US differed among the studies, so a uniform standard might be required. The outcomes revealed that CEUS-rerated Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) might have a higher diagnostic performance in BI-RADS 3-5 lesions.
