The accuracy of prostate MRI interpretation: Impact of the individual radiologist and clinical factors
Urology Feb 28, 2019
Pickersgill NA, et al. - From September 2014 to December 2016, researchers examined 459 subjects to evaluate and prognosticate the test performance of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) to detect the prostate cancer (PCa) among different radiologists using the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS). They found no meaningful differences in test performance among different radiologists. They recorded a past biopsy, radiologist experience >500 prostate mpMRI, transition zone (TZ) location and posterior location, the predictors of diminished sensitivity. Location of the mpMRI lesion in the TZ was noticed as a predicting factor of enhanced specificity. They predicted an increase in positive predictive value (PPV) with increasing age and PSA, while prior biopsy predicted decreased PPV.
