The accuracy and prognostic value of point-of-care ultrasound for nephrolithiasis in the Emergency Department: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Academic Emergency Medicine | Feb 26, 2018
Wong C, et al. - The accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for the diagnosis of nephrolithiasis was determined. The prognostic significance in the management of renal colic was assessed. A modest diagnostic accuracy of POCUS for diagnosing nephrolithiasis was shown. In this study, the finding of moderate or severe hydronephrosis was highly specific for the presence of any stone, and the presence of any hydronephrosis was suggestive of a larger (>5mm) stone in those presenting with renal colic.
