The âsurgeon on serviceâ model for timely, economically viable inpatient care of tracheostomy patients in academic pediatric otolaryngology
JAMA OtolaryngologyâHead & Neck Surgery Sep 04, 2017
Lavin JM, et al. – This research was planned to assess the impact of the surgeon on service (SOS) model on the quality principles of timeliness and to evaluate if this model was fiscally feasible in an academic pediatric otolaryngology practice. This investigation also examined the efficiency of tracheostomy tube placement. Findings suggested that the presence of a rotating inpatient pediatric otolaryngologist was a productive approach to patient care associated with a more timely performance of tracheostomy. Moreover, an improved balance of service with education to trainees and a better perception of communication with consulting services were the other benefits of this approach.
