The “Yogurt” technique for descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty graft preparation: A novel quick and safe method for both inexperienced and senior surgeons
Cornea Aug 08, 2020
Tzamalis A, Vinciguerra R, Romano V, et al. - Using a newly designed partial-thickness hinge punch, researchers sought to describe and assess the safety and effectiveness of a novel technique (Yogurt technique) to prepare Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) donor grafts. The novel Yogurt technique by means of a guarded hinge punch, which resembles the opening of a yogurt cup, appears to be a simple, quick, effective, and safe method for preparing DMEK grafts independently of the level of surgeon experience. Further prospective studies are required to assess its effectiveness in real-time surgical conditions comparing it with other preparation techniques.
