Thalamic deep brain stimulation for essential tremor also reduces voice tremor
Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface Dec 31, 2017
Kundu B, et al. - This retrospective cohort study was designed to assess whether ventral intermediate nucleus (Vim)-deep brain stimulation (DBS) used to treat patients with essential motor tremor also effectively treated underlying concurrent voice tremor and to evaluate whether particular lead locations were favorable for treating vocal tremor. In this group of patients, unilateral and bilateral Vim-DBS targeted to treat the motor component of essential tremor also dramatically decreased the amplitude of voice tremor, implying a potential benefit of this treatment for affected patients.
