Temporal trends in incidence and patient characteristics in cardiogenic shock following acute myocardial infarction from 2010 to 2017: A Danish cohort study
European Journal of Heart Failure Jul 29, 2019
Helgestad OKL, et al. - Researchers analyzed 1,716 consecutive Danish patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) after acute myocardial infarction (AMICS) to determine the current annual incidence of AMICS. Between 2010 and 2017 In Denmark, they also wanted to assess the percentage of patients manifesting CS post-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and other time-based shifts in AMICS. They found that between 2012 and 2017, the Danish population saw an increase in the incidence of AMICS, from a low point 65.3 per million person-years in 2013 to 80.0 per million person-years in 2017. During this period, development of CS was reported in fewer STEMI patients and an increase was noted in the hemodynamic severity of CS; however, survival rates continued to be unaltered. Annual 30-day mortality over the study period stayed the same at about 50%.
