Temporal trends in craniopharyngioma management and long‐term endocrine outcomes: A multicentre cross‐sectional study
Clinical Endocrinology Oct 02, 2020
Hussein Z, Glynn N, Martin N, et al. - Since the optimal management of craniopharyngiomas remains uncertain, researchers conducted this cross‐sectional, multicentre study to explore temporal trends in the management of craniopharyngioma with a focus on endocrine outcomes. Between 1951 and 2015, patients treated were identified and divided into four quartiles. Demographics, presentation, treatment and outcomes have been collected. A total of 142 patients with childhood‐onset craniopharyngioma and adult‐onset disease were involved. The data presented in this work showed a significant decline in panhypopituitarism in craniopharyngioma patients over time, most likely due to a trend towards more transsphenoidal surgery. Long-term endocrine sequelae, however, remain common and lifelong follow-up is needed.
