Temporal changes in comorbidity burden in patients having percutaneous coronary intervention and impact on prognosis
American Journal of Cardiology Jun 23, 2018
Potts J, et al. - Researchers used the Nationwide Inpatient Sample and assessed the influence of comorbidity burden on outcomes in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). They identified all PCI procedures done in the US between 2004 – 2014 and assessed comorbidity burden for every patient record according to the Charlson Comorbidity Score. To determine the link between comorbidity burden and in-hospital mortality and other in-hospital complications, they used multivariable logistic regression models. Findings demonstrated an independent association of comorbid burden with increased risk of in-hospital mortality, in-hospital complications, length of stay and healthcare costs.
