Temporal changes in characteristics, treatment and outcomes of heart failure patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: Findings from Melbourne Interventional Group registry

Heart, Lung, and Circulation Jun 10, 2018

Chin KL, et al. - Researchers used data from the Melbourne Interventional Group (MIG) to analyze temporal trends in patient characteristics, treatment and outcomes of patients with heart failure (HF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to see if outcomes of these patients have improved over time. They used Box-Jenkins autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models to assess change over time. Findings demonstrated high rates (≥ 90%) of procedural success, but no benefit was seen in rates of major adverse cardiac events, cardiovascular readmission, all-cause death and cardiovascular death. Overall, they noticed that although medical technology and contemporary therapeutic measures have improved, such improvements failed to bring about change in the clinical outcomes in HF patients undergoing PCI.
