Henckel E, et al. - In this study, researchers examined the effect of inflammation on telomere length and lung function in school-aged children born preterm with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). They observed that 10-year-old children born preterm with a history of BPD and term-born children with allergic asthma were similar in terms of telomere length. However, an association of impaired lung function and male gender with short telomeres was observed.
