Telomere length and all-cause mortality: A meta-analysis
Ageing Research Reviews Sep 28, 2018
Wang Q, et al. - Researchers conducted a meta-analysis using unpublished data from the Swedish Twin Registry (STR) to assess the association of the telomere length (TL) with all-cause mortality. They included 25 studies: 4 STR cohorts (12,083 individuals with 2,517 deaths) and 21 published studies. Findings suggested an association of short telomeres with increased all-cause mortality risk in the general population. Nonetheless, a contribution of TL measurement techniques and age at measurement to the heterogeneity of effect estimation was noted. Hazard ratio was also found to be smaller in individuals > 80 years of age.
