Tattoo complications in treated and non-treated psoriatic patients
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Oct 04, 2019
Grodner C, Beauchet A, Fougerousse AC, et al. - In this multicentre cross-sectional study, researchers assessed the frequency of tattoo complications in psoriasis patients (n = 2,053) and explored whether the occurrence of complications was correlated with psoriasis status and treatments received at the time of tattooing. Consecutively included adults with psoriasis and categorized as tattooed or non-tattooed. Pruritus, oedema, allergic reaction/eczema, infection/superinfection, granuloma, lichenification, photosensitivity, Koebner phenomenon and psoriasis flare after tattooing were included complications. In patients with psoriasis, the rate of tattoo complications was low. Although the risk of complications among psoriasis patients requiring treatment at the time of tattooing was highest, all of the complications noted were benign. These results may be useful for practitioners in providing patients with objective information. There have been no reported severe complications.
