Targeting tumor metabolism with statins during treatment for advanced-stage pancreatic cancer
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Oct 29, 2018
Iarrobino NA, et al. - In this retrospective-cohort study involving 303 patients with newly diagnosed advanced-stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma, researchers investigated how outcomes in these patients undergoing various treatments were affected using statins. Hazard ratios (HRs) were estimated by using univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models. This study represents the first ever attempt to determine the effectiveness of statin use as a supplementary treatment option in advanced-stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients. In this patient population, improved overall survival was observed in association with statin use. Previous results in early-stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma and other cancer sites were supported.
