Tanning salon compliance rates in states with legislation to protect youth access to UV tanning
JAMA Dermatology Nov 02, 2017
Williams MS, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to the compliance rates in the 42 states and the District of Columbia with the legislation restricting tanning bed use in minors. Additionally, the authors determined the variations in compliance based on population, regional location, salon ownership, age group being regulated, and time since the law was enacted. The compliance with such a legislation was unsatisfactory. This data pointed out the necessity of additional efforts to enforce the laws and education of the harmful effects of UV tanning, particularly in rural, independently owned, and tanning salons in southern regions, that displayed decreased compliance rates.
