T-score differences and non-progression in lumbar vertebrae as predictors of vertebral fractures

Clinical Endocrinology Apr 17, 2019

Lajlev SE, et al. - In this investigation, researchers looked at associations between T-score difference or non-progression of the vertebral area and vertebral fractures. A total of 100 patients with ≥ 1 fractures in L1-L4 and 106 patients without fractures were identified and included in this analysis. All participants had DXA-scans and lumbar spine x-rays. Investigators found that, with a T-score difference ≥ 1 SD, OR for fracture was 1.30. Sensitivity and specificity were 0.40 and 0.66, respectively. In all, they noted that a randomly found T-score difference ≥ 1.5 SD between adjacent vertebrae on a DXA-scan may be linked to a slightly increased risk of compression fracture. In patients without fractures, non-progression is very common.
