T cell receptor repertoire profiling predicts the prognosis of HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma
Cancer Medicine Jul 03, 2018
Lin KR, et al. - Researchers, for the first time, evaluated the potential value of T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis. They conducted a systematic characterization of the infiltrating T cell repertoires of tumor and matched adjacent normal tissues from 23 HBV-associated HCC patients via high-throughput TCR sequencing. Findings revealed that between the two groups of tissue samples, significant differences on usage frequencies of some Vβ, Jβ, and Vβ-Jβ paired genes were found, but with regards to TCR repertoire diversity, no significant difference could be found. A good assessment of prognosis could not be offered by the similarity of TCR repertoires between paired samples or the TNM stage alone, but an efficient prognostication could be obtained by considering their combination, and patients with early stage and high similarity showed a better prognosis.
