Systemic lupus erythematosus is associated with poor outcome after acute myocardial infarction
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Aug 26, 2019
Ke SR, Liu CW, Wu YW, et al. - Researchers used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database to assess if systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is related to poor outcomes following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). They categorized the SLE group as AMI patients with a concurrent discharge diagnosis of SLE. From the total non-SLE group, an age-, sex-, hospital level-, and admission calendar year-matched non-SLE group was selected at a ratio of 1:3. A diagnosis of AMI was seen in 151 patients with SLE, 113,791 patients without SLE, and 453 matched patients without SLE upon admission. A higher risk of in-hospital mortality as well as a borderline significant higher risk of prolonged hospitalization post-AMI was reported in correlation with SLE.
