Lupus Mar 14, 2019
Bae EH, et al. - During the 7 years of follow up in this study, authors examined the malignancy risk in 21,016 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus vs the general population between 2008 and 2014. They recorded malignancy in 763 (3.63%) systemic lupus erythematosus cases and 2,667 (2.54%) controls. They noticed a higher odds ratio for developing cervical, thyroid, ovarian, and oral cancer, as well as lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma among those with systemic lupus erythematosus vs controls. They recorded male systemic lupus erythematosus cases and candidates less than 40 years of age exhibiting the highest risk of lymphoma. They suggested cancer screening programs in systemic lupus erythematosus patients.
