Lupus Feb 08, 2019
Bae EH, et al. - A sum of 21,016 candidates (mean age 41.67 ± 13.14 years) were examined to evaluate the risk of malignancy in systemic lupus erythematosus cases as compared to the risk in the general population. They observed 3.63% of malignancy in systemic lupus erythematosus patients and 2.54% in controls. The higher odds ratio for developing cervical, thyroid, ovarian, and oral cancer, as well as lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma were noted in systemic lupus erythematosus patients. The highest risk for lymphoma was reported among male systemic lupus erythematosus patients as well as those younger than 40 years.
