Systemic immune response in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck: A comparative concordance index analysis
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Oct 01, 2019
Tham T, Wotman M, Chung C, et al. - Researchers conducted this comparative concordance index analysis to examine the prognostic role of three inflammatory markers: the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR), and the platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) as prognostic indicators in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC). Study participants included HNSCC patients treated with primary surgery, with or without adjuvant radiochemotherapy. Findings suggested no association of LMR, PLR, and NLR with OS, but with event-free survival in HNSCC. These markers can be readily obtained and may constitute additional risk stratification tools for HNSCC patients in the age of individualized patient care and precision medicine.
