Systematic review with meta-analysis: Risk factors for recurrent primary sclerosing cholangitis after liver transplantation
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Feb 14, 2019
Steenstraten IC, et al. - Via searching Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane library for articles published until March 2018, researchers defined risk factors for recurrent primary sclerosing cholangitis (rPSC). Studies on risk factors for the development of rPSC have been eligible for inclusion. Study quality was assessed with the Newcastle Ottawa scale. Using Cochrane Review Manager, statistical analysis was performed. Investigators found that colectomy before liver transplantation, presence of inflammatory bowel disease, cholangiocarcinoma before liver transplantation, donor age (per 10 years), any episode of acute cellular rejection after liver transplantation, multiple episodes of acute cellular rejection and laboratory Model of End Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score per point were related to the risk of rPSC. Overall, they concluded that several risk factors have been identified for rPSC. The risk of rPSC was reduced by colectomy before liver transplantation.
