Systematic review on use of health incentives in US to change maternal health behavior

Washio Y, Atreyapurapu S, Hayashi Y, et al. - Researchers sought to attain evidence-based information on the effect of incentive use for maternal health behavior change. In accordance with the PRISMA methodology, they conducted this systematic literature review among prospective studies on incentive use for maternal health behavior change in a US cohort. Findings suggest effectiveness of incentives such as vouchers and other financial incentives in improving outcomes especially related to substance use, tobacco use and breastfeeding. No consistent effect of incentives on treatment adherence outcome was identified.
