Systematic review of the prevalence of nodal metastases and the prognostic utility of sentinel lymph node biopsy in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
The Journal of Dermatology May 02, 2018
Tejera-Vaquerizo A, et al. - Authors conducted a systematic review analyzing the prevalence, predictors and prognostic value of sentinel lymph node (SLN) involvement in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Experts did not find any studies that reported on predictors of SLN involvement in cSCC or on the prognostic utility of this finding after adjustment for confounders was done. In cSCC, the rate of positive SLN was found to be less than previously reported. Considerable variability of criteria for recommending SLN biopsy as a staging tool for cSCC was seen from study to study, and none of the studies were large enough to reliably identify predictors of SLN positivity.
