Systematic review of sentinel lymph node biopsy in Merkel cell carcinoma of the head and neck

Karunaratne YG, et al. - Researchers systematically reviewed MEDLINE, PUMED, and EMBASE databases for publications concerning the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in classification I and II Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) of the head and neck to assess its impact. Findings did not suggest a correlation between the site of primary MCC with a false-negative SLNB result. There was a non-statistically significant tendency for increased occurrence among midline lesions. For eligible patients with classification I and II head and neck MCC, SLNB is suggested.
