Systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the safety of buproprion and varenicline in pregnancy

Turner E, et al. - In view of the known efficacy of bupropion and varenicline as cessation methods in non-pregnant smokers, researchers planned the first systematic review investigating their safety in pregnancy. Analysis of outcomes following bupropion exposure in pregnancy revealed no major positive or negative impacts on the rate of congenital abnormalities, birthweight or premature birth. No evidence suggested these treatments as harmful in pregnancy neither any evidence strongly supported their safety.
