Systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that Kangaroo position protects against apnoea of prematurity
Acta Pediatrica Jan 16, 2020
Montealegre-Pomar A, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review of clinical trials published in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese in order to discover whether the Kangaroo position decreased apnoea events in preterm newborns contrasted with conventional care in the incubator. They selected four original clinical trials and conducted in India and Nepal, between 2005 and 2016. The systematic review comprised of 416 preterm newborns. Three studies were randomized controlled trials and one was quasi-experimental. It was found that against apnoea events in preterm infants, the Kangaroo position could have a shielding effect, reducing the correlated risk of death or long-term disability.
