Systematic review and meta-analysis of the use of serum procalcitonin levels to predict intra-abdominal infections after colorectal surgery

Tan WJ, et al. - Researchers performed this systematic review to assess the value of procalcitonin (PCT) in predicting intra-abdominal infection (IAI) after colorectal surgery. Following colorectal surgery, PCT was found to be a useful diagnostic predictor of IAI. It had the greatest diagnostic accuracy on postoperative days (POD) 5 and could help in guiding safe discharge of patients after colorectal surgery.
