Systematic review and meta-analysis of prognostic factors for idiopathic inflammatory myopathy-associated interstitial lung disease
BMJ Open Dec 20, 2018
Kamiya H, et al. – In this systematic review and meta-analysis using the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation system, researchers clarified prognostic factors for idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD). Through August 9, 2018, they searched Medline, EMBASE, and Science Citation Index Expanded databases to identify relevant studies, of which 32 met inclusion criteria. These studies reported on 28 potential prognostic factors for all-cause mortality. According to the findings, older age, acute/subacute interstitial pneumonia, lower value of a percentage of predicted forced vital capacity, ground glass opacity/attenuation, and extent of radiological abnormality can predict poor prognosis for IIM-associated ILD. A positive test for anti-Jo-1 antibody, on the other hand, indicated a better prognosis. The authors recommended cautious interpretation, however, given the limited evidence.
