Heckmann N, et al. - Researchers examined 3298 candidates to estimate the effectiveness of intrawound vancomycin in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the prevention of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). They observed an overall decline in the rate of PJI among subjects who were given vancomycin when analyzed separately. They also noticed a decrease in the rate of PJI in pooled primary and revision TKA and THA cases receiving vancomycin.
