Synergistic effect of the association between lidocaine and magnesium sulfate on perioperative pain after mastectomy: A randomised, double-blind trial
European Journal of Anaesthesiology Feb 13, 2020
Mendonça FT, et al. - In this randomized, double-blind trial involving 120 patients, researchers tested the effectiveness of venous adjuvants (ie, lidocaine and magnesium sulfate) in decreasing opioid consumption and pain scores after mastectomy. For this analysis, they used intra-operative infusions of remifentanil (0.1 μg kg−1 min−1), lidocaine (3 mg kg−1 h−1), magnesium sulfate (50 mg kg−1 + 15 mg kg−1 h−1) or lidocaine with magnesium sulfate. The authors discovered that individuals who received both lidocaine and magnesium sulfate group (n = 30) consumed less alfentanil during surgery and less dipyrone and morphine in the postoperative period. The data presented in this work showed a synergistic effect of the use of both lidocaine and magnesium in perioperative pain. In the multimodal analgesia regimen, this can be another potential strategy.
