Syncope, hypotension, and falls in the treatment of hypertension: Results from the randomized clinical Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Apr 08, 2018
Sink KM, et al. - In the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial including adults aged 50 and older, predictors of serious adverse events (SAEs) involving syncope, hypotension, and falls were determined, primarily focusing on age. A greater risk of hypotension and possibly syncope, but not falls, was observed in participants randomized to intensive systolic blood pressure control. The greater risk of developing these events associated with intensive treatment did not vary according to age. Participants with chronic kidney disease or frailty had a higher risk of all three SAE outcomes.
