Sutureless vs interrupted sutures techniques for neonatal circumcision: A randomized clinical trial
Journal of Pediatric Urology Jul 04, 2020
Bawazir OA, et al. - A randomized controlled clinical trial was performed to compare the sutureless to the interrupted sutures technique for neonatal circumcision with Gamco clamp. Overall 182 newborns were included. Neonates who underwent sutureless circumcision were allocated to Group 1 (n= 94), and those who had circumcision using interrupted absorbable 6/0 sutures were assigned to group 2 (n= 89). In group 2, a significantly longer procedural duration was reported. In group 1, significantly decreased cyst formation was reported and skin sinus formation increased in group 2. Male circumcision is a commonly performed as well as a safe procedure with minor and treatable complications. The sutureless method was shown to be associated with low risks of bleeding and sinus track formation. For male circumcision in the newborn, the sutureless technique is advised following Gamco circumcision as the standard technique.
